I've written a piece about 'midlife' not being synonymous with 'crisis'! I don't think I've published it yet though. (I've lost track if myself!) I think we're on to something...
I agree with this! It’s not a crisis. It’s a full bodied reaction to the life we’ve lived that’s not our own. Many of us live in a society that places pressure & has expectations of how we “should” be then we reach a point when we realise it’s a crock of sh*t and start living on our own terms. I can’t wait to read your piece!
I'm dealing with the EXTREME desire to escape right now. I would love to just sell everything (or put it into storage), pack a bag, and go wander around Europe for a year or two. If only!
Honestly? Financial insecurity. I grew up during the Farm Crisis of the 1980s here in the US, and my parents went bankrupt trying to hold on to the family farm. My dad didn't manage money well, and my childhood was just fraught with "will we have enough $$?" Then I married a man who was bad with money, and it just made it all worse. I've always worked a full time job with freelance work, or a full-time and part-time job, or whatever I've had to, to make sure there's money in the bank. Not working full-time would freak me out!
Our learned mindsets around money are often putting us in cages. I’ve done quite some therapy on that topic as well as my excuses and fears and it has helped me a lot! (Highly recommend IFS Internal Family Systems therapy)
You can do any remote job while traveling. People pay shitloads of money for pictures of feet! 🦶😂 go figure!
Girl, life is short! EXTREME desires are to be listened to!
I finally heard my biological clock start ticking at 40 and decided to try for a baby! Had my girl at 42. I wasn’t quite ready for menopause to be the only adventure I had left to experience with my body! The rest of my life is dedicated to my daughter and being around as long as possible for her. Don’t know if it was a crisis but it was definitely a midpoint!
Hi Miranda, Thank you for your piece here. I share here my own experience of mid life crisis which gives a particular perspective relating to the astrology of this life passage. It may be of interest…

Money is energy. That’s all it is.

You’re right - I need to find a job where I can work remotely anywhere! The one I have now limits me to the U.S.
Good plan! Go for it!

Thanks for sharing, I'll hop on over to read!
This was so me. I love using the word reinvention instead of crisis. It's only a crisis if you allow it to be. Otherwise, it's a gift.
Very true!

"the newfound freedom to live out the desires they pushed aside at an early age" resonates.
